Automatic selection

Automatic selection

Automatic selection is a popular way to ensure you receive new books that match your interests, no matter whether you have the time or ability to select your own.

For example, if you enjoy mysteries and biographies and want to receive 1 book a week, we can set up your service so we send a new mystery or biography in your preferred format every week. All you need to do is enjoy them!

Even if you choose automatic selection, you can always select your own books as well. You can place holds either online by logging into this website or by phone. We'll always send the books you specifically choose first.

How to set up automatic selection

After you register for CELA, you will receive an email or audio message explaining how to order books online and how to set up automatic selection service. If you choose braille or are a child, we'll call you. You can also contact us by email or call us at 1-855-655-2273. We will be happy to set up automatic selection for you.

Available content and borrowing limits

Automatic selection is offered for Direct to Player, braille and printbraille. Titles in the Bookshare collection are not available through automatic selection, but you may request them through the website or by phone or email.

You can update the automatic selection service anytime to adjust the type or number of books you are receiving.

Direct to Player bookshelf

For contents placed on your Direct to Player bookshelf, you'll receive 3 books daily up to a maximum of 12 book titles. Once you're ready to read more books, you'll need to delete some titles so our system can issue new reading materials to you. If you like a mixture of choosing your own as well as receiving titles automatically, you'll be able to add as many books as the storage on your device allows, but automatic selection will only add more books if you have less than 12 Direct to Player books on your bookshelf.

Embossed Braille

You can receive up to three embossed braille books per week through automatic selection.

Printbraille

You can receive up to two printbraille books per week through automatic selection. You may have up to 10 books checked out at one time. When this limit is reached, automatic checkouts will stop until books have been returned and checked in.

Regardless of how many printbraille books you have checked out at one time, printbraille must be returned after six weeks. To return a printbraille book, place it in the cloth bag in which you received it and flip over the paper mailing card in the pocket.
