Daniel Samper Pizano cuenta en este libro la peripecia, rigurosamente inédita, del blanco adminículo de porcelana que hoy las gentes admiran en las exposiciones de los restos del trasatlántico. El 10 de abril de 1912 zarpó del puerto de Southampton… el buque más grande que había conocido la humanidad, el Titanic. Cuatro días después naufragó en las aguas yertas del Atlántico. Se llevó consigo a 1.500 personas, joyas por varios millones de dólares, cuantiosa carga, vajillas, muebles y un centenar de bacinillas, también llamadas en español beques, bacines, orinales o, más científicamente, micas. Cuando ya la historia se había olvidado de ellas, un sofisticado equipo submarino rescató en 1985 miles de objetos del fondo del mar. Allí apareció, oronda, invicta, intacta, la mica del Titanic.
