Mulan: a story in Chinese and English

By Li Jian, Yijin Wert

Folklore, fables and fairy tales

Human-transcribed braille

Summary

A long time ago in China, there lived a young girl named Mulan. Her father was a retired general who taught her many skills girls weren't normally allowed to learn, like martial arts, archery, sword play and how to ride… a horse. One day, soldiers came to Mulan's village to order that a man from each family had to join the army and fight because China was in danger. Mulan's father was too old, but was honour-bound to fight. That night, Mulan came up with a brave but risky plan to save the honour of her family and her father's life. Print text in English and Chinese. Grades K-3. 2014.
