Alexa Routine Instructions
Creating a Routine with the Alexa app allows you to set up your own voice command to launch an Alexa skill more easily. Follow the steps below to create a voice command that will launch the Accessible Reading Canada skill on your Alexa device.
Instructions
- Open the Alexa App on your phone or tablet.
- Go to Routines:
- Tap “More” (bottom centre icon with three horizontal lines) and then select “Routines”.
- Start a new routine: Tap the + (plus) icon in the top right corner.
- Add a trigger: Choose what starts the routine by selecting “add an event” under the "When" heading.
- To add a voice command as the trigger, select “Voice” and enter a specific phrase of your choosing (e.g., "Alexa, open audiobooks").
- Select “Next” (top right corner) to continue.
- Add actions: Select what Alexa should do after the trigger event by selecting “add an action” under the "Alexa will" heading.
- Select “Skills” under the list of actions. You may need to scroll down the list to find this item.
- Select “Your Skills” and search for “CELA - Accessible Reading Canada”
- After selecting the CELA skill, select “Next” to continue.
- Select “Save”:
- If you have more than one Alexa device, you can choose which device will use the routine before saving.
- Once saved, you will receive a confirmation message to acknowledge your new routine. It will also appear in your list of Routines in the Alexa app. It may take up to one minute for voice routines to be ready to use.
