Summary
Emsley Johnson, Sr. the child of "log cabin parents," researched the Indiana frontier for many years. He wrote a novel based on his own family's experiences in the "Deep Forest" of Hoosier early days. Customs, stories, detailed descriptions of machinery… used in the period 1800-1850 are woven into an appealing, alive story of a family from the Battle of Tippecanoe to the Civil War. The novel, originally written in 1950 and never published, was found in the family attic and has been edited by Hoosier historian Nancy Niblack Baxter to celebrate the Bicentennial of Indiana. It is an official Bicentennial project of the State of Indiana
