Elle reprend, après l'exécution de son père, le flambeau à la tête du Parti du Peuple Pakistanais qu'elle portera au pouvoir à deux reprises. Ayant dû quitter le Pakistan en 1999 pour échapper à la prison, Benazir y rentre en 2007 malgré les menaces de mort qui pèsent sur elle et constate l'évolution politique et sociale d'un pays où la liberté est une lutte permanente. Dans Fille de l'Orient, Benazir Bhutto délivre, en dépit de la violence dont elle aura été la victime, un message d'espoir autant qu'un plaidoyer pour l'action et la démocratie. Ses mémoires se dévorent comme une saga, tant son incroyable destin dépasse la fiction. Sa vie se sera terminée de manière tragique mais, hélas, prévisible. Après les Kennedy et les Gandhi, une nouvelle dynastie politique naît dans la douleur et le sang, les Bhutto." -- 4e de couv
