Tiff: A life of timothy findley
Par Sherrill Grace. 2021
Timothy Findley (1930-2002) was one of Canada's foremost writers—an award-winning novelist, playwright, and short-story writer who began his career as…
an actor in London, England. Findley was instrumental in the development of Canadian literature and publishing in the 1970s and 80s . During those years, he became a vocal advocate for human rights and the anti-war movement. His writing and interviews reveal a man concerned with the state of the world, a man who believed in the importance of not giving in to despair, despite his constant struggle with depression. Findley believed in the power of imagination and creativity to save us. Tiff: A Life of Timothy Findley is the first full biography of this eminent Canadian writer. Sherrill Grace provides insight into Findley's life and struggles through an exploration of his private journals and his relationships with family, his beloved partner, Bill Whitehead, and his close friends, including Alec Guinness, William Hutt, and Margaret Laurence. Based on many interviews and exhaustive archival research, this biography explores Findley's life and work, the issues that consumed him, and his often profound depression over the evils of the twentieth-century. Shining through his darkness are Findley's generous humour, his unforgettable characters, and his hope for the future. These qualities inform canonic works like The Wars (1977), Famous Last Words (1981), Not Wanted on the Voyage (1984), and The Piano Man's Daughter (1995)Building a cyber risk management program: Evolving security for the digital age

Par Salman Rushdie. 2024
Rencontrez Louis Pasquier. summarized as questionable research practices. It is unique in that it discusses how unwarranted data manipulation harms research results and that questionable research practices are often caused by researchers’ inadequate mastery of the statistical methods and procedures they use for their data analysis. The author’s solution to prevent problems concerning the trustworthiness of research results, no matter how they originated, is to publish data in publicly available repositories and encourage researchers not trained as statisticians not to overestimate their statistical skills and resort to professional support from statisticians or methodologists. The author discusses some of his experiences concerning mutual trust, fear of repercussions, and the bystander effect as conditions limiting revelation of colleagues’ possible integrity breaches. He explains why people are unable to mimic real data and why data fabrication using statistical models stills falls short of credibility. Confirmatory and exploratory research and the usefulness of preregistration, and the counter-intuitivenature of statistics, are discussed. The author questions the usefulness of statistical advice concerning frequentist hypothesis testing, Bayes-factor use, alternative statistics education, and reduction of situational disturbances like performance pressure, as stand-alone means to reduce questionable research practices when researchers lack experience with statistics. An interview with the author can be found here: https://www.tilburguniversity.edu/magazine/overview/former-rector-sijtsma-turn-statistician-fight-fraud-and-sloppiness.Key Developments in International Marketing: Influential Contributions and Future Avenues for Research (JIBS Special Collections)

This book helps you become a master of your story, a pursuit indispensable to personal and professional success. By developing…
your SQ, you'll amplify and unleash every aspect of your intelligence, including your IQ and EQ. In this book, you'll also learn how you're wired for a story and the ways it can set a positive trajectory for every facet of your life journey. Developing this level of mastery is imperative today because four in ten Americans have not discovered a satisfying life purpose. Nearly a quarter of us-about one hundred million people-do not have a strong sense of what makes our lives meaningful. We need more than ever ritual fires where we can gather to create new stories that transcend the old metanarratives that no longer enrich and satisfy the yearnings of our hearts and souls. Story is a potent medicine that can re-enchant our lives. By re-storying ourselves, consciously building it into everyday living, we can make space to hear ourselves better, listen more deeply to each other, and discern the tales the earth is quietly whispering in our ears. Hopefully, Story Intelligence will help you stoke a new kind of fire, assisting you in illuminating what the Japanese call "ikigai"-translated loosely as "that which most makes one's life seem worth living." Through mastering story, we believe you can build a more durable source of meaning and personal fulfillment, as well as have a broader impact for good in your community and the world. In this book, you'll also learn how to: harness the power of story to live with greater efficacy; become a more influential communicator; solve complex challenges using story-based solutions; transform your workplace and community; heal old wounds, change dysfunctional beliefs, and bridge differences by resolving deeply seated conflicts; and, acquire the narrative tools to craft a more desirable future.Nonprofits power much of what's good in society today. navigate complex issues and landscapes. It's hard work, and it relies on building relationships between board members who govern, clients and members who enjoy or rely on services, and supporters who take action and donate to advance the organization's mission. Communicating clearly and effectively is critical to building strong relationships, but many nonprofits are under-resourced communicators. They lack staff expertise, capacity, and funding. In addition, marketing and communications best practices specific to the needs of nonprofits are scarce. It's hard for many nonprofits to know what to prioritize and where to spend limited resources. This book outlines a simple model for nonprofit communicators and leaders that makes it easier for them to leverage communications to advance their mission. Nonprofit CEOs and staff who manage communications can use this book to set clearer goals, guide their planning and activities, identify gaps in their expertise, and discover opportunities to strengthen their communications. The book provides a comprehensive analysis of Engineering Education in industrialising countries, with Southern Africa as the case study, benchmarked…
on institutions from the industrialised world, with UK institutions as the reference. This was motivated by the perennial shortage of engineers and engineering skills to drive industry in Southern Africa, compounded by the mismatch of skills between those produced by tertiary institutions and those required by industry. This book focuses on the insufficiencies in training, through addressing the gap where the majority of engineering academics’ qualifications at MSc/MEng level fall short of the internationally acceptable PhD/DEng/DTech. In order to address such insufficiencies, the book proposes and advocates for reskilling and doctoral training of engineering academics through the proposed and established DTCs within the region. The book is targeted at graduate students, engineering academics, researchers, university administrators, foreign aid agencies, captains of industry and policy-makers in governments. To all these readers, the book offers:Promise, Pitfalls, and Potential of Social Entrepreneurship: Positive Change Unleashed (Routledge COBS Focus on Responsible Business)

conversations, and diverse narratives around this widely popular concept. The idea and practice of social entrepreneurship has swept the world, taken up with enthusiasm by business leaders, nonprofit practitioners, and public policy makers alike. In this book, the authors argue that social entrepreneurship is surrounded by great promise, and that this high expectation has contributed to its pitfalls, setting it out as separate and different from other kinds of nonprofit organising, public service provision, and business for social benefit. After exploring the problem of inflated expectations, the authors rescue the concept from perfection – overly positive normative judgements – by presenting practical ways forward. The book sets out how to really unleash the power of social entrepreneurship so that it can actually deliver on its promise to improve how we organise for social purpose. This potential revolves around four key themes that are levers for social change: innovative individuals, social impact, scaling social enterprises, and the power of ecosystems. Through these themes, the book covers a wide range of approaches to social enterprise illustrated by specific examples and experiences from five continents. This accessible book is a valuable resource for a variety of practitioners, upper-level students, instructors, and business scholars, particularly those with an interest in social/environmental impact, entrepreneurship, business ethics, sustainable business, ESG and CSR.National and International Monetary Payments: From Smith to Keynes and Schmitt (Palgrave Studies in the History of Economic Thought)
Par Andrea Carrera, Alvaro Cencini. 2024
This book demonstrates the relevance of the historical perspective with respect to national and international payment systems. Its analysis of…
national and international payments develops along a dialectical path that starts with the work of the Classics (thesis), undergoes a radical turn with the advent of the neoclassical school (antithesis), and reaches the modern theory of emissions passing through Keynes’s contribution (synthesis). That the history of economic thought occupies a legitimate place in the field of historical studies is beyond dispute. What may be less well understood is that it can serve purposes beyond those of the academic community of historians. This book critically investigates the contributions of the greatest economists of the past to provide insights into the pathologies of today’s systems of national and international payments and into the reforms that are needed to correct them. It will be relevant to students and researchers interested in economicpolicy and the history of economic thought.
