"This bestseller in Puerto Rico is the complete story of the only revolution against the United States, told from the…
perspective of Comandante Elio Torresola, who led the rebel forces to victory during El Grito de Jayuya. In 1950, Puerto Rican nationalists stunned the world when they succeeded in destroying the international image of the United States as the 'Champion of Democracy' by declaring the Republic of Puerto Rico and extending the reach of the rebellion into the heartland of the United States through a direct attack on President Truman. |Times of Upheaval| is the product of a three-year investigation by a journalist who delved into personal and official documents, including the FBI's so-called Secret Files on Puerto Rico, newspapers, books and theses at the University of Puerto Rico, and interviews with witnesses to the events, as well as with the revolutionaries and their families." -- Translation provided by NLSA Cossack Spring

from the Okanagan Valley in his heart and imagination. Early in the twenty-first century, he was made a permanent citizen of Oliver. Bowering has family up and down the Valley, and he goes there as often as he can. He has been asked during his many visits to Okanagan bookstores over the years to publish a collection of his writing about the Valley.Writing the Okanagan draws on forty books Bowering has published since 1960 - poetry, fiction, history, and some forms he may have invented. Selections from Delsing (1961) and Sticks & Stones (1962) are here, as is "Driving to Kelowna" from The Silver Wire (1966). Other Okanagan towns, among them Rock Creek, Peachland, Vernon, Kamloops, Princeton, and Osoyoos, inspire selections from work published through the 1970s and on to 2013. Fairview, the old mining site near Oliver, is the focus of an excerpt from Caprice (1987, 2010), one volume in Bowering's trilogy of historical novels. "Desert Elm" takes as its two main subjects the Okanagan Valley and his father, who, as Bowering did, grew up there. With the addition of some previously unpublished works, the reader will find the wonder of the Okanagan here, in both prose and poetry.Summer Rain - Back to you

A haunting examination of groupthink and mass hysteria in a rural community The place is Salem, Massachusetts, in 1692, an…
enclave of rigid piety huddled on the edge of a wilderness. Its inhabitants believe unquestioningly in their own sanctity. But in Arthur Miller's edgy masterpiece, that very belief will have poisonous consequences when a vengeful teenager accuses a rival of witchcraft--and then when those accusations multiply to consume the entire village. First produced in 1953, at a time when America was convulsed by a new epidemic of witch-hunting, The Crucible brilliantly explores the threshold between individual guilt and mass hysteria, personal spite and collective evil. It is a play that is not only relentlessly suspenseful and vastly moving but that compels readers to fathom their hearts and consciences in ways that only the greatest theater ever can.Cassie Has a New Secret Admirer

responded, “Yes.” She smiled and slapped me on my left shoulder telling me, “Dream on my friend.” Later that year Andrea was taken from us by the most notorious serial killer to ever hunt in the state of Alaska. Get ready to collectively ride an emotional ride through urban Alaska while looking through a steamy window for lost love; love that's never found and love that maybe never was. I can only imagine the helplessness; the complete feeling of being alone these women had; Andrea must have had, preyed upon all of their spirit's gathering together now. Victims of circumstance; none of these women deserved to be mistreated like Andrea; dehumanized, erased from our minds. One last chance to give Andrea a voice, each woman asking us can you hear me, do you see me now?
