Les progrès vertigineux de la connaissance du cerveau et des nouvelles technologies vont amplifier encore les possibilités de cette '' chirurgie de l'âme ''. Celle-ci pourrait aussi concerner des maladies neurodégénératives, comme Alzheimer. De telles approches suscitent cependant de nombreuses questions éthiques. Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, des individus aux comportements jugés déviants, homosexuels, agités... furent lobotomisés. Aujourd'hui, en Chine, des milliers de morphinomanes sont passés entre les mains de chirurgiens qui ont détruit leurs noyaux cérébraux dans le but de les sevrer. Qu'en sera-t-il demain ?
