Par Mohammad Ali. 2015
This second edition of the highly successful and comprehensive text on lacrimal disorders presents the latest developments in this rapidly…
evolving field. The new edition includes six new chapters, additional photographs and all chapters now have a separate section on recent advances.Written by experts in the field of dacryology, this book is a practical guide to evaluating and managing patients with lacrimal disorders. It methodically discusses basic anatomy and underlying pathology, patient evaluation, and all surgical procedures currently used to manage such disorders. Par Jayvadan Patel, Vijaykumar Sutariya, Jagat Kanwar, Yashwant Pathak. 2018
This book addresses the issues relating to a wide variety of ocular diseases from which millions of people suffer. Long-term…
challenges include visual impairment and ocular blindness. Certain ocular diseases are quite rare, whereas others, such as cataracts, age-related macular degeneration (AMD), and glaucoma, are very common, especially in the aging population. A rapid expansion of new technologies in ocular drug delivery and new drug candidates, including biologics, to treat these challenging diseases in the retina and posterior segments of the eye have recently emerged. These approaches are necessary because the eye has many unique barriers to drug delivery. Thus, this timely reference Drug Delivery for the Retina and Posterior Segment Disease compiles and analyzes recent advances in the research and development of drug delivery systems for retina and posterior segment diseases of the eye, with an emphasis on the use of implantable devices, iontophoresis as well as micro- and nanoparticles.Retinal Prosthesis: A Clinical Guide to Successful Implementation (Essentials in Ophthalmology)

degeneration, arterial macroaneurysm, Valsalva retinopathy, and trauma. However, there is currently no consensus regarding the ideal treatment for macular hemorrhage. The purpose of this book on macular hemorrhage is twofold: it aims both to impart valuable information on pathophysiology, risk factors, diagnostic aspects, and prognostic criteria under different conditions and to provide a systematic overview of therapeutic approaches that cover the most important situations a vitreoretinal surgeon might encounter when treating patients with this disorder. Case presentations, clinical photographs, and an extensive review of the literature supplement the important information on clinical decision making, surgical techniques, and typical pitfalls and invite the reader to explore the advantages and disadvantages of various approaches to the management of macular hemorrhage.Ophthalmology in Extreme Environments (Essentials in Ophthalmology)

Par Ulrich Spandau, Heinrich Heimann. 2018
Since publication of the first edition of this book in 2012 vitreoretinal surgery has marched with huge steps forward. In…
2012 23G was standard, today 25G and 27G are the most commonly used gauge sizes for vitrectomy. In 2012 the cutting rate was 5.000 cuts/min and today with the development of a novel vitreous cutter the cutting rate has increased to 16.000 cuts/min. The advent of 25G/27G made the instruments smaller and surgery less traumatic. Practical Handbook for Small-Gauge Vitrectomy: A Step-By-Step Introduction to Surgical Techniques, 2ndEdition focuses on these new developments and features new chapters on PVR detachment, intraocular tumour, macular translocation, sub macular hemorrhages and ocular trauma. The surgeries are demonstrated step-by-step and the material is shown in detail and videos visualize the surgery. This book will serve as an immensely useful guide for all surgeons who are intending to make use of this exciting and increasingly used technique.Emergency, Acute and Rapid Access Ophthalmology: Practical, Clinical and Managerial Aspects

Par Toam Katz, Stephan Linke. 2016
Since the early days of Excimer laser surgery to the cornea, the field of refractive and therapeutic laser application has…
evolved dramatically [1]. Laser refractive surgery of the cornea is at the current state widely accepted as a safe and effective standard procedure for surgical correction of low to moderate ametropia (i.e., myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism). Current literature and own data reveal the high safety and efficacy of the procedures. According to Price et al. [2], the risk of laser refractive surgery is comparable to contact lens wear regarding safety and side effects. However, complications still occur and can subsequently result in reduced efficacy and safety of the procedure. Both human and technical sources of error exist. The first step in the string of pearls of complication management is the precise detection and correct diagnosis of a complication followed by its targeted immediate management. In light of millions of refractive laser surgeries performed worldwide per year, we aim to provide a comprehensive textbook on complications and their management in refractive and therapeutic laser surgery of the cornea. The list of possible complications includes intraoperative flap cutting errors, decentration of optical zone, incorrect transfer of laser parameters, and postoperative complications. Infectious keratitis and keratectasia are among the most severe postoperative complications and can result in permanent loss of vision. Although the focus of this textbook is complications in corneal laser surgery, we include a chapter about corneal topography/tomography. Knowing and differentiating between regular and irregular shape of the cornea is mandatory for a reliable, safe, and straightforward screening process of refractive surgery candidates. Establishing a consensus for laser refractive surgery indications/contraindications and treatment based on the current scientific knowledge can significantly improve surgical outcome and patient satisfaction. A major strength of this book is the introduction of the full spectrum of laser application to the cornea from refractive to therapeutic including Excimer therapeutic and cornea transplant procedures.A Clinician's Guide to Progressive Supranuclear Palsy

clinical practitioners, such as the nurses, medical students, residents, fellows and even ophthalmologists, to help them making the most appropriate decision on the management of patients who have suffered from such ocular conditions. A thorough understanding of the anatomy of the eyeball and the traumatic characteristics of each structure of the eyeball are a prerequisite for proper interpretation of long-term outcomes of mechanical eye injuries. The first part provides the audiences general information of ocular anatomy, which will help them understand the basic anatomic knowledge and generate a clinical thinking. The following part provides the detailed examinations. They will help readers to make the right diagnose and offer the best advice or treatment to the patients. For each chapter, detailed clinical workup, clinical presentations and signs, and pictures or illustrative figures will be provided. Part 3 will benefit more medical coworkers to be familiar with the registration system of ocular trauma and its social and medical meaning. This will also help the advances of epidemiology and proper treatment approaches for ocular trauma. Hopefully this book may help the clinical practitioners to be fully prepared for any challenge of ocular traumatic cases.Customized Laser Vision Correction
