Par John A. Matthews, David T. Herbert. 2005
It can be argued that the differences in content and approach between physical and human geography, and also within its…
sub-disciplines, are often overemphasised. The result is that geography is often seen as a diverse and dynamic subject, but also as a disorganised and fragmenting one, without a focus.Unifying Geography focuses on the plural and competing versions of unity that characterise the discipline, which give it cohesion and differentiate it from related fields of knowledge. Each of the chapters is co-authored by both a leading physical and a human geographer. Themes identified include those of the traditional core as well as new and developing topics that are based on subject matter, concepts, methodology, theory, techniques and applications.Through its identification of unifying themes, the book will provide students with a meaningful framework through which to understand the nature of the geographical discipline. Unifying Geography will give the discipline renewed strength and direction, thus improving its status both within and outside geography. The Petite Bourgeoisie in Europe 1780-1914: Enterprise, Family And Independence (Routledge Library Editions: The Victorian World)

Par Kristine Moruzi, Michelle J. Smith. 2024
Literary Cultures and Nineteenth-Century Childhoods explores the construction of the child and the development of texts for children in the nineteenth…
century through the application of fresh theoretical approaches and attention to aspects of literary childhoods that have only recently begun to be illuminated. This scope enables examination of the child in canonical nineteenth-century novels by Charles Dickens, Elizabeth Gaskell, Charlotte Bronte, and Thomas Hardy alongside well-known fiction intended for young readers by George MacDonald, Christabel Coleridge, and Kate Greenaway. The century was also distinctive for the rise of the children’s magazine, and this book broadens the definition of literary cultures to include magazines produced both by, and for, young people. The volume examines how the child and family are conceptualised, how children are positioned as readers in genres including the domestic novel, school story, Robinsonade, and fantasy fiction, how literary childhoods are written and politicised, and how childhood intersects with perceptions of animals and the natural environment. The range of chapters in this collection and the texts they consider demonstrates the variability and fluidity of literary cultures and nineteenth-century childhoods.Recent Challenges in Intelligent Information and Database Systems: 15th Asian Conference, ACIIDS 2023, Phuket, Thailand, July 24–26, 2023, Proceedings (Communications in Computer and Information Science #1863)

Par Mubashir Husain Rehmani, Saim Ghafoor. 2024
Machine learning has shown tremendous benefits in solving complex network problems and providing situation and parameter prediction. However, heavy resources…
are required to process and analyze the data, which can be done either offline or using edge computing but also requires heavy transmission resources to provide a timely response. The need here is to provide lightweight machine learning protocols that can process and analyze the data at run time and provide a timely and efficient response. These algorithms have grown in terms of computation and memory requirements due to the availability of large data sets. These models/algorithms also require high levels of resources such as computing, memory, communication, and storage. The focus so far was on producing highly accurate models for these communication networks without considering the energy consumption of these machine learning algorithms. For future scalable and sustainable network applications, efforts are required toward designing new machine learning protocols and modifying the existing ones, which consume less energy, i.e., green machine learning protocols. In other words, novel and lightweight green machine learning algorithms/protocols are required to reduce energy consumption which can also reduce the carbon footprint. To realize the green machine learning protocols, this book presents different aspects of green machine learning for future communication networks. This book highlights mainly the green machine learning protocols for cellular communication, federated learning-based models, and protocols for Beyond Fifth Generation networks, approaches for cloud-based communications, and Internet-of-Things. This book also highlights the design considerations and challenges for green machine learning protocols for different future applications.
