Par Markus Merkel, Andreas Öchsner. 2023
The basic idea of this introduction to the finite element method is based on the concept of explaining the complex…
method using only one-dimensional elements. Thus, the mathematical description remains largely simple and straightforward. The emphasis in each chapter is on explaining the method and understanding it itself. The reader learns to understand the assumptions and derivations in various physical problems in structural mechanics and to critically assess the possibilities and limitations of the finite element method. The restriction to one-dimensional elements thus enables the methodical understanding of important topics (e.g. plasticity or composite materials), which a prospective computational engineer encounters in professional practice, but which are rarely treated in this form at universities. Thus, an easy entry - also into more advanced application areas - is ensured by the concept of (a) introduction to the basics (b) exact derivation with restriction to one-dimensional elements (and in many cases also to one-dimensional problems) (c) extensive examples and advanced tasks (with short solution in the appendix). For illustration purposes, each chapter is deepened with extensively calculated and commented examples as well as with further tasks including short solutionsThe Palgrave Handbook of Methodological Individualism: Volume II

Par Ujjwal K. Chowdhury, Lakshmi Kumari Sankhyan. 2023
This book provides comprehensive information and clarity on all aspects of diagnosing and managing constrictive pericarditis. The operative procedures for…
constrictive pericarditis are presented in detail with technical tips supplemented by surgical videos. Further, it explores and guides on issues with mixed opinions like the role of corticosteroids, timing of the operation, choice of the operative procedure, terminologies to describe the extent of decortication, and the requirement of cardiopulmonary bypass. Despite experience spanning over 100 years, there is no fool-proof formula in the published literature that can be used in selecting an optimal surgical approach for a given patient. The terms "radical", "total", "extensive", "complete", "subtotal", "adequate", "near-total" and "partial" pericardiectomy also have been variably used in the literature, often without a precise definition of the limits of pericardial resection.Providing an update on the latest advancements and long-term results of pericardiectomy appeals to all clinicians managing constrictive pericarditis. For the trainees, it offers insights into surgical techniques' relevant anatomy and foundation. The book will be beneficial to MBBS, MD, MS, M.Ch (CTVS), DM (Cardiology), Diplomate of National Board (Cardiology and CTVS), FRCS, FRACS, MD (USA, Canada, and in all developing and developed countries).Current and Future Trends on Intelligent Technology Adoption: Volume 1 (Studies in Computational Intelligence #1128)

nondesign skill a designer can have. The most elegant design can fail if it forces users to conform to the design instead of working within the "blueprint" of how humans perceive and process the world around them. This practical guide explains how you can apply key principles of psychology to build products and experiences that are more human-centered and intuitive. Author Jon Yablonski deconstructs familiar apps and experiences to provide clear examples of how UX designers can build interfaces that adapt to how users perceive and process digital interfaces. You'll learn:How aesthetically pleasing design creates positive responsesThe principles of psychology most useful for designersHow these psychology principles relate to UX heuristicsPredictive models including Fitts's law, Jakob's law, and Hick's lawEthical implications of using psychology in designA practical framework for applying principles of psychology in your design processThis updated edition includes an even deeper connection to the underlying psychological concepts that govern the principles explored in the book, along with accompanying UX methods and techniques. Examples have been updated to ensure the deconstructed apps and experiences remain familiar and relevant. The Wild Bee Handbook: The Amazing Lives of Our Wild Species and How to Help Them Thrive

Par Moiya McTier. 2022
In this approachable and fascinating biography of the galaxy, an astrophysicist and folklorist details everything humans have discovered—from the Milky…
Way's formation to its eventual death, and what else there is to learn about the universe we call home. After a few billion years of bearing witness to life on Earth, of watching one hundred billion humans go about their day-to-day lives, of feeling unbelievably lonely, and of hearing its own story told by others, The Milky Way would like a chance to speak for itself. All one hundred billion stars and fifty undecillion tons of gas of it. It all began some thirteen billion years ago, when clouds of gas scattered through the universe's primordial plasma just could not keep their metaphorical hands off each other. They succumbed to their gravitational attraction, and the galaxy we know as the Milky Way was born. Since then, the galaxy has watched as dark energy pushed away its first friends, as humans mythologized its name and purpose, and as galactic archaeologists have worked to determine its true age (rude). The Milky Way has absorbed supermassive (an actual technical term) black holes, made enemies of a few galactic neighbors, and mourned the deaths of countless stars. Our home galaxy has even fallen in love. After all this time, the Milky Way finally feels that it's amassed enough experience for the juicy tell-all we've all been waiting for. Its fascinating autobiography recounts the history and future of the universe in accessible but scientific detail, presenting a summary of human astronomical knowledge thus far that is unquestionably out of this world. of The Living Great Lakes Lakes might be the most misunderstood bodies of water on earth. And while they may seem commonplace, without lakes our world would never be the same. In this revealing look at these lifegiving treasures, John Richard Saylor shows us just how deep our connection to still waters run. Lakes is an illuminating tour through the most fascinating lakes around the world. Whether it&’s Lake Vostok, located more than two miles beneath the surface of Antarctica, whose water was last exposed to the atmosphere perhaps a million years ago; Lake Baikal in southern Siberia, the world&’s deepest and oldest lake formed by a rift in the earth&’s crust; or Lake Nyos, the so-called Killer Lake that exploded in 1986, resulting in hundreds of deaths, Saylor reveals to us the wonder that exists in lakes found throughout the world. Along the way we learn all the many forms that lakes take—how they come to be and how they feed and support ecosystems—and what happens when lakes vanish.Small is beautiful, and these 15 real farm plans show that small-scale farmers can have big-time success. Par Ali Kaveh, Hossein Yousefpoor. 2024
In this book, various chaos maps are embedded in eleven efficient and well-known metaheuristics and a significant improvement in the optimization…
results is achieved. The two basic steps of metaheuristic algorithms consist of exploration and exploitation. The imbalance between these stages causes serious problems for metaheuristic algorithms, which are immature convergence and stopping in local optima. Chaos maps with chaotic jumps can save algorithms from being trapped in local optima and lead to convergence toward global optima. Embedding these maps in the exploration phase, exploitation phase, or both simultaneously corresponds to three efficient and useful scenarios. By creating competition between different modes and increasing diversity in the search space and creating sudden jumps in the search phase, improvements are achieved for chaotic algorithms. Four Chaotic Algorithms, including Chaotic Cyclical Parthenogenesis Algorithm, Chaotic Water Evaporation Optimization, Chaotic Tug-of-War Optimization, and Chaotic Thermal Exchange Optimization are developed.
