Francophone West African countries: Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso.It examines the representation and perception of key themes broadcast by radio and associated with women’s empowerment in the three countries. The topics covered in the chapters are women’s political engagement; women and finances; women and life within marriage; inheritance; women’s involvement in radio structures; and radio, internally displaced women, and trauma.Given the social, economic and political vulnerability and deteriorating security situation of the three countries, this book provides a timely and meaningful contribution to acknowledging and understanding the vital role of radio in women’s empowerment.Basic English Grammar

rhetorical effects of those choices on their readers. Kolin and Gray ask students to regard sentence structure as a toolkit – and its application an artful way to elicit a desired emotion or reaction – rather than a list of tedious rules to remember. In this way, grammar is defined as an intellectual exercise that opens students' minds to the versatility, beauty, and possibilities of language. The Eighth Edition offers a more intuitive content organization, updated passage selections, and current exercises and examples. It maintains its hallmark revision strategies and systematic discussions about reader expectations, sentence rhythm and cohesion, subordination and coordination, punctuation, modification, diction, and many other essential principles.Strategic Writing: Multimedia Writing for Public Relations, Advertising and More

most significant impetus comes from an area that is often mentioned but difficult to grasp: mental strength, personality, and team cohesion after special victories. Using current scientific knowledge and illustrated by many examples, this book describes the mental and cognitive processes that determine victory and defeat in soccer. Several interviews with well-known soccer coaches, managers and former players complement these findings from psychology and sport science. It deals with phenomena such as the home field advantage, creativity on the field, extreme emotional situations, the limits of visual perception, group dynamics and modern leadership. Well-known myths (e.g. Don't let the player who has been fouled shoot the penalty) will be discussed and debunked. Every soccer enthusiast should read this book in order to understand which phenomena can genuinely be game-changing and which ones cannot.Baby Bust, 10th Anniversary Edition: New Choices for Men and Women in Work and Family
Par Stewart D. Friedman. 2024
Ten years ago a groundbreaking cross-generational study revealed that greater freedom and new constraints were leading fewer young people to…
choose parenthood. In the intervening years, the decision to have a family has not gotten easier.Stew Friedman, founding director of The Wharton School's Work/Life Integration Project, studied two generations of Wharton college students as they graduated: Gen Xers in 1992 and Millennials in 2012. The cross-generational study produced a stark discovery—the rate of graduates who planned to have children had dropped by nearly half over those 20 years. While some might wonder what this privileged group can tell us about broader trends in the United States, Friedman argues that they were “the canaries in the coal mine. . . . if they could not see a way to make their careers and families work, how could those with fewer opportunities and resources square this circle?”In a new preface to this 10th anniversary edition of Baby Bust, Friedman observes that the birth rate in the United States has continued to decline in the years since. He offers new insights into why fewer people are choosing to have children, how the pandemic affected these trends, and what can be done about it.In this book, Friedman addresses:+ How views about work and family have changed;+ Why men and women have different reasons for opting out of parenthood;+ How family has been redefined;+ What choices we face in our social and educational policy; and+ How organizations and individuals—especially men—can spur cultural change. In the debates on work and family, people of all generations are calling for a reasoned, thoughtful, research-driven contribution to the discussion. In Baby Bust, Friedman offers just that: an astute assessment of how far we have come and where we go from here.Who Do You Think You Are?: An Interactive Journey Through Your Past Lives and into Your Best Future

Par Margaret E. Thompson. 2019
This book introduces a more collaborative and reflexive way of producing news that incorporates concepts of cultural identity and cultural…
positioning of both journalists and sources using a feminist approach to inclusion of all voices and perspectives. This text proposes a feminist collaborative model of journalism that incorporates critical reflexivity, requiring journalists not only to be aware of their own cultural positionality but also that of their sources, as a means of producing more authentic and balanced news coverage. The model is intended for use by journalists as well as journalism education programs to educate future journalists on how to effectively serve audiences with scrupulously investigated, reported, and crafted stories. Chapters explore journalism during the Obama and Trump years, current journalistic trends, and alternative media, and feature topics such as fake news, racism, sexism in news production and content, and immigration and media. Thompson addresses issues of power and privilege amongst journalists and marginalized groups, and how these implicate power dynamics of journalism practice and reinforce social inequality, particularly relating to race and gender. This book is ideal for advanced undergraduate and graduate students of journalism and media studies, as well as scholars, journalists, and media practitioners.Xenophobia in the Media: Critical Global Perspectives (Routledge Studies in Media, Communication, and Politics)
Par Senthan Selvarajah, Nesrin Kenar, Ibrahim Seaga Shaw, Pradeep Dhakal. 2024
Through its global and critical perspectives, this book brings together knowledge, ideas, and tools to understand the problems and identify…
effective solutions, best practices and alternative approaches to combat xenophobia in the media and build tolerance and social cohesion. Although various studies have been conducted on the extent to which the media construct xenophobic discourse against immigrants and refugees and how they represent immigrants, there exists a research lacuna as to the dynamics of the xenophobia construction in the media, the effect of xenophobic discourse of the media and its function, the nexus between xenophobia construction of the media and the social, economic and political conditions, and the impact of the xenophobic discourse of the media on immigrants and host communities. This book adds knowledge and empirical evidence to fill this research gap. This book will be an important resource for journalists, scholars and students of media and communication studies, journalism, political science, sociology, and anyone covering issues of race and racism, human rights, immigration and refugees. My Father the Spy: An Investigative Memoir

Par Ahmed Al-Rawi. 2024
This book examines ISIS’ media propaganda machine. The book focuses on case studies that have been largely understudied in relation to…
ISIS’ media production. Empirically, it offers new insights into how ISIS uses its media production to disseminate its extremist ideology by focusing on video games, educational apps, Dark Web sites, and offline billboards. The book argues that despite all the discussion about how ISIS has disappeared or even died, the terrorist group’s daily activities on the Dark Web show that they are still thriving and disseminating their propaganda in more than 20 different languages, and effectively functioning as an international news organization. Using a mixed-method research approach, the book offers a multilayered understanding of media content and fills a major gap in the literature, especially in relation to the use of educational apps and the Dark Web.This book will be of much interest to students of media and communication studies, terrorism and counterterrorism, Middle Eastern politics, and international relations. The Rescue: The True Story of the SAS Mission to Save Hostages from the Taliban
