Par Ulrich Spandau, Heinrich Heimann. 2018
Since publication of the first edition of this book in 2012 vitreoretinal surgery has marched with huge steps forward. In…
2012 23G was standard, today 25G and 27G are the most commonly used gauge sizes for vitrectomy. In 2012 the cutting rate was 5.000 cuts/min and today with the development of a novel vitreous cutter the cutting rate has increased to 16.000 cuts/min. The advent of 25G/27G made the instruments smaller and surgery less traumatic. Practical Handbook for Small-Gauge Vitrectomy: A Step-By-Step Introduction to Surgical Techniques, 2ndEdition focuses on these new developments and features new chapters on PVR detachment, intraocular tumour, macular translocation, sub macular hemorrhages and ocular trauma. The surgeries are demonstrated step-by-step and the material is shown in detail and videos visualize the surgery. This book will serve as an immensely useful guide for all surgeons who are intending to make use of this exciting and increasingly used technique.Emergency, Acute and Rapid Access Ophthalmology: Practical, Clinical and Managerial Aspects

Par Toam Katz, Stephan Linke. 2016
Since the early days of Excimer laser surgery to the cornea, the field of refractive and therapeutic laser application has…
evolved dramatically [1]. Laser refractive surgery of the cornea is at the current state widely accepted as a safe and effective standard procedure for surgical correction of low to moderate ametropia (i.e., myopia/hyperopia/astigmatism). Current literature and own data reveal the high safety and efficacy of the procedures. According to Price et al. [2], the risk of laser refractive surgery is comparable to contact lens wear regarding safety and side effects. However, complications still occur and can subsequently result in reduced efficacy and safety of the procedure. Both human and technical sources of error exist. The first step in the string of pearls of complication management is the precise detection and correct diagnosis of a complication followed by its targeted immediate management. In light of millions of refractive laser surgeries performed worldwide per year, we aim to provide a comprehensive textbook on complications and their management in refractive and therapeutic laser surgery of the cornea. The list of possible complications includes intraoperative flap cutting errors, decentration of optical zone, incorrect transfer of laser parameters, and postoperative complications. Infectious keratitis and keratectasia are among the most severe postoperative complications and can result in permanent loss of vision. Although the focus of this textbook is complications in corneal laser surgery, we include a chapter about corneal topography/tomography. Knowing and differentiating between regular and irregular shape of the cornea is mandatory for a reliable, safe, and straightforward screening process of refractive surgery candidates. Establishing a consensus for laser refractive surgery indications/contraindications and treatment based on the current scientific knowledge can significantly improve surgical outcome and patient satisfaction. A major strength of this book is the introduction of the full spectrum of laser application to the cornea from refractive to therapeutic including Excimer therapeutic and cornea transplant procedures.Controversies in the Management of Keratoconus
Par Adel Barbara. 2019
This book presents new technologies which are available now for the rehabilitation of visual acuity in patients suffering from keratoconusand…
for arresting the progression of this frustrating disease. All these current treatment options in differing combinations aim to improve the quality of life of the patients and although successful, they are causing confusion for the ophthalmologists; what procedure to do and when? How to perform? Which combination of treatments to choose? Controversies in the Management of Keratoconusprovidesthe widely used treatment options for keratoconus including collagen corneal cross –linking (CXL) covering all the available techniques, intrastromal corneal ring segments (ICRS) , phakic intra-ocular lenses (IOLs), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) combined or not with CXL penetrating keratoplasty (PK) and deep anterior lamellar keratoplasty ( DALK). Each treatment is addressed by more than one author with different points of view in order to present the various approaches, the logic behind them and the most relevant clinical data available.A chapter by the editor tries to put some light on how to navigate among these controversies. This book will be of interest to trainees as well as the specialized ophthalmologists.Strabismus

clinical tips, illustrations, flow charts as well as multiple-choice questions to aid understanding. It also provides essential information that students require for examinations. Further, it encourages ophthalmologists who do not usually deal with strabismus patients to identify and manage uncomplicated cases. It discusses various management options, including the guidelines for refraction and spectacle prescription, which are often neglected. Separate chapters on surgical planning, horizontal muscle surgery and complications make strabismus surgery a reality for all eye surgeons. Lastly, the book addresses practical issues like parent counseling and alternatives to surgery.Advances in Vision Research, Volume II: Genetic Eye Research In Asia And The Pacific (Essentials In Ophthalmology Ser.)
Par Takeshi Iwata, Gyan Prakash. 2019
This second volume continues with a focus on the state of the art in genetic eye research in Asia and…
the Pacific. Though there has been an explosion of information on genetic eye research in western countries, more than sixty percent of the human genes involved in eye diseases in the Asian and Pacific population remain unknown. However, new efforts and a new awareness have sparked important discussions on the subject, and new plans are being implemented to discover the genes responsible for many eye diseases in the population. The book reviews the latest findings; its content ranges from genetic aspects of human migration to DNA sequence analysis, genome-wide association analysis, and disease phenotypes. The efforts of the Asian Eye Genetic Consortium (AEGC) are also discussed. The book’s editors have been instrumental in developing strategies for discovering the new Asian genes involved in many eye diseases. All chapters were written by leading researchers working on Asian eye genetics from the fields of Human Genetics, Ophthalmology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Sensory Sciences, and Clinical Research. Advances in Vision Research, Volume II will prove to be a major resource for all researchers, clinicians, clinical researchers, and allied eye health professionals with an interest in eye diseases among the Asian population.Neuro-Ophthalmology: Global Trends in Diagnosis, Treatment and Management (Thieme Publishers Series)

clinical practitioners, such as the nurses, medical students, residents, fellows and even ophthalmologists, to help them making the most appropriate decision on the management of patients who have suffered from such ocular conditions. A thorough understanding of the anatomy of the eyeball and the traumatic characteristics of each structure of the eyeball are a prerequisite for proper interpretation of long-term outcomes of mechanical eye injuries. The first part provides the audiences general information of ocular anatomy, which will help them understand the basic anatomic knowledge and generate a clinical thinking. The following part provides the detailed examinations. They will help readers to make the right diagnose and offer the best advice or treatment to the patients. For each chapter, detailed clinical workup, clinical presentations and signs, and pictures or illustrative figures will be provided. Part 3 will benefit more medical coworkers to be familiar with the registration system of ocular trauma and its social and medical meaning. This will also help the advances of epidemiology and proper treatment approaches for ocular trauma. Hopefully this book may help the clinical practitioners to be fully prepared for any challenge of ocular traumatic cases.Customized Laser Vision Correction
