Theatre Work: Reimagining the Labor of Theatrical Production investigates both the history and current realities of life and work in…
professional theatrical production in the United States and explores labor practices that are equitable, accessible, and sustainable. In this book, Brídín Clements Cotton and Natalie Robin investigate the question of artmaking, specifically theatrical production, as work. When the art is the work, how do employers navigate the balance between creative freedom and these equitable, accessible, and sustainable personnel processes? Do theatrical production operations value the worker? Through data analyses, worker narratives, and analogues to the evolving gig economy, Theatre Work questions everything about theatrical production work – including our shared history, ways of operating, and assumptions about how theatre is made – and considers what might happen if the American Theatre was reborn in an entirely new form.Written for members of the theatrical production workplace, leaders of theatrical institutions and productions, labor organizers, and industry union leaders, Theatre Work: Reimagining the Labor of Theatrical Production speaks to the ways that employers and workers can reimagine how we work. This comprehensively updated third edition explores the nature and role of environmental management and offers an introduction to this rapidly…

must include in-depth perspectives informed by psychosocial theory. This may be best accomplished by relying on complementary theories to account for what is found and experienced in our organizations and in particular a better understanding of why this is happening. "Why did she do that?" "Why did he say that?" "Why did a group react the way they did?" “Why,” is critical in terms of understanding organizational dynamics. Our lives at work in large complex and multidimensional organizations are saturated with experience, some of which is fulfilling, and some are of a darker nature that arises from the presence of toxic leaders and dysfunctional organizational dynamics. Understanding these toxicities and dysfunctions and their effect on organization members is approached by first raising their awareness at the beginning of the book before providing psychosocially informed insights that form a basis for understanding and organizational change in the following sections. This book explores these work-life dynamics by grounding them in concrete examples and then using complementary psychoanalytically informed perspectives to illuminate their underlying, often unconscious nature filling an important gap in management and organizational literature.Balance of Power: Central Banks and the Fate of Democracies
Par Éric Monnet. 2024
Central banks now stand between societies and collapse, but are they still democratic? Two decades of financial crises have dramatically…
expanded central banks’ powers. In 2008, and then again in 2020, unelected banking officials found themselves suddenly responsible for the public welfare—not just because it was necessary but based on an idea that their independence from political systems would insulate them from the whims of populism. Now, as international crises continue and the scope of monetary interventions grows in response, these bankers have become increasingly powerful. In Balance of Power, economist and historian Éric Monnet charts the rise of central banks as the nominally independent—but unavoidably political—superpowers of modern societies. This trajectory, Monnet argues, is neither inevitable nor unstoppable. By embracing the political natures of today’s central banks, we can construct systems of accountability for how they interact with states and societies. Monnet shows that this effort will do more than guard against unjust power; it will put the banks to work for greater, more democratic ends. With existential challenges looming and the work of the Federal Reserve and European Central Bank more important than ever, Balance of Power offers a trenchant case for what this century’s central banks can—and must—become. This volume comprises selected peer-reviewed proceedings of 15th International Congress on Advances in Civil Engineering (ACE 2023) was held in…

This foundational text was one of the first books to integrate work from moral philosophy, developmental/moral psychology, applied psychology, political…
and social economy, and political science, as well as business scholarship. Twenty years on, this third edition utilizes ideas from the first two to provide readers with a practical model for ethical decision making and includes examples from I-O research and practice, as well as current business events. The book incorporates diverse perspectives into a "framework for taking moral action" based on learning points from each chapter. Examples and references have been updated throughout, and sections on moral psychology, economic justice, the "replicability crisis," and open science have been expanded and the "radical behavioral challenge" to ethical decision-making is critiqued. In fifteen clearly structured and theory-based chapters, the author also presents a variety of ethical incidents reported by practicing I-O psychologists. This is the ideal resource for Ethics and I-O courses at the graduate and doctoral level. ausgewählte Ansatzpunkte zur Bindung von Noncomplainern. Supply Chain Management: Concepts, Challenges and Future Research Directions (Research for Development)
Par Christine Harland. 2024
The book focuses on the development of the concept of supply chain management and the current state of knowledge on…
supply chain structure and infrastructure. It draws together knowledge from materials management, purchasing and supply management, operations management, industrial marketing and logistics perspectives, as well as industrial economics, organizational behaviour, systems thinking, and strategic management. Three key conceptual themes are developed: (1) the recognition of supply chain management as a multi-level endeavour, (2) the increasing aspirations for supply chain management to be a strategic, not just an operational concept, and (3) the view of the supply chain management research community as an academic discipline. The book also examines supply chain structure in terms of dyads, triads, chains, networks, supply bases, supply systems and supply markets. Supply chain infrastructure is discussed in terms of processes, roles and behaviours, and draws on extensive international empirical research. Challenges for researchers are addressed, such as interconnectedness in complex supply systems, the need for greater resilience, and how public policy and public value can be impacted by research. It concludes with a co-authored chapter that examines the potential future identity of supply chain management.Income Inequality and the CEO Pay Ratio at TJX Cos
Par Akari Furukawa, Ethan Rouen. 2019

questions about whether, and how, she could take action to address concerns raised by having one of the highest pay ratios in the S&P 500. As a retail company, TJX had 270,000 employees, many making about $10 an hour. On the other hand, CEO Ernie Hermann made $19 million in 2019 as he successfully steered the company through the tumultuous retail environment. Meant to be read in tandem with the research note "Income Inequity and Income Inequality," this case examines the current disclosures companies make related to income inequality and asks whether they are sufficient or how they can be improved. This discussion around disclosure also provides opportunities to examine the role of the firm in creating income inequality and how the firm should balance its obligations to shareholders and employees when those obligations may be in conflict. Lastly, the case and note address the CEO pay setting process to give students an understanding of how pay is determined.Rajat Gupta

asked to review and assess the governance model the firm uses for majority-owned companies in its portfolio. The case describes the governance model and then shows how it has worked in practice at two companies: Italy's orthopedic implant maker Lima Corporate and French chemical company Novacap. For each company, the case describes how Ardian decided on the investment and established a board of directors, and details the deliberations around some of the critical decisions made by each board during Ardian's tenure as majority shareholder. Through the two examples of Lima and Novacap, the case invites students to evaluate Ardian's approach to corporate governance in its portfolio companies and to recommend possible changes or improvements.
