Par Anthony Scaramucci. 2010
The investment expert shows how a better understanding of people, capital, and culture can enrich one&’s life financially as well…
as spiritually. It is time to say goodbye to Gordon Gekko, the rogue character famously portrayed by Michael Douglas in the classic movie Wall Street. In Goodbye Gordon Gekko, author Anthony Scaramucci explores opportunities for leading a rich life in a difficult, radically changed economy. Believing that the financial crisis was caused by a nation of Gekko-wannabes tripped up by status anxiety and egocentric tendencies, he argues that you can be happy and financially profitable as long as you stay true to yourself and stick to your values and principles. Scaramucci offers hope, urging you to pass through the happily-ever-after portal so that you can find your fortune and all that is fortunate. With years of experience at Goldman Sachs, and having co-founded two successful alternative investment management companies, the author provides a behind-the-scenes view of life on Wall Street—the wins and the losses, the rights and the wrongs, the successes and the failures, the good mentors and the difficult colleagues. Through these entertaining and insightful stories, featuring advice from a diverse cast of characters ranging from Li Ka-shing to John Weinberg to his Italian nana, Scaramucci identifies the temptations and roadblocks that accompany our professional ambitions and personal choices, revealing the rules for leading a profitable and fortunate life. What does this mean in practical terms? As Scaramucci shows, it means ridding yourself of egotistical tendencies and developing the self-awareness to bounce back from failure. It means building a circle of competence made of those you trust, mentoring and celebrating others, and giving back to your community and country, all the while targeting success. It means seeing capitalism as an art and businesses as creations and vocations, not simply as levers to feeding your ego. Goodbye Gordon Gekko provides a road map to help people achieve true wealth defined beyond a checking account. Praise for Goodbye Gordon Gekko&“A fun, easy read, with sage advice.&” —Oliver Stone, three-time Academy Award Winner; Director, Wall Street and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps&“A truly insightful read. It introduces us to a moral compass on Wall Street—finding riches by direction of a true north as opposed to insidious Gekko-style greed.&” —Josh Brolin, Academy Award Nominee; Actor, Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps; Active Trader&“Scaramucci is a unique combination of great entrepreneur and savvy Wall Streeter. His perspective on all things business is invaluable and here for all to read.&” —David Faber, Anchor, CNBCPrinciples For Life: Using Biblical Principles To Bring Dynamic Psychological Healing
Par Troy Reiner. 2014
Our world is full of hurting people. The Word of God is the answer but somehow attempts to apply Biblical…
principles to bring psychological healing have fallen short of the deeper needs of many of these hurting people. This has been true for several reasons. Most models of Biblical change have been limited to either confronting and demanding change, or acting and practicing new Biblical ways of doing things. These methods do not deal with the entire person: will, spirit, past experiences, mind, perceptions, needs, motivation, actions, and emotions. They do not take into account the complexity of the human heart and the interactions between its members. This book addresses these problems through the use of the "Train of Psychological Wholeness," a concept developed from Proverbs Chapter Three. It provides an understanding of a large number of these principles, a detailed method for developing counseling plans using Biblical principles, and counseling methods and techniques for their application in order to bring about dynamic psychological healing. This book explains 44 of the most important principles in the Bible from a psychological perspective and provides an in-depth method for developing counseling plans using biblical principles for common psychological problems. This material includes a discussion of 13 classical methods of biblical change, a new model for understanding the human heart and techniques for applying biblical principles in counseling. It includes counseling plans and methods for treating anxiety, panic attacks, obsessions, compulsions, sexual abuse, domestic violence, marital problems, and Borderline Personality Disorder. How to Become an Accidental Activist (Accidental Series #2)

'But the return is not always easy, especially when the world has moved on without you, when the people who…
were rooting for you have now found other heroes to support.' When Pullela Gopichand had to undergo a risky arthroscopic surgery, chances of his full recovery were not great. His return to the badminton court seemed a far-fetched dream. The odds were stacked against him. Then, in 1998, he won the bronze in the Commonwealth Games. His biggest win was yet to come. In 2001, Pullela became the second Indian to win the All England Championship. This is the story we know. From not being able to walk to winning the most prestigious title in badminton, this is Pullela the player. But his success hasn&’t stopped at just him. The Pullela Gopichand Badminton Academy, set up in 2008, boasts of a host of World No. 1s including Saina Nehwal and Srikanth Kidambi and World Badminton Champion PV Sindhu. What is it about his teachings that propels players right to the top? In his official autobiography, we meet Pullela the coach. Through his own voice, as well as those of his students, mother, and wife, we get a look at the mind that revolutionised the game. We are shown not only what it takes to get to the top, but also, and more importantly, how to stay there. Healing for these problems requires more than a few words of advice or some solution-focused therapy; it requires a life transformation. Unfortunately, most pastors and church counselors do not have in-depth Biblical answers for these complex problems. Consequently, most churches refer these problems to counselors outside of the church who rely primarily on secular counseling methods and theories, or psychoactive drugs. What is needed is a simple, yet in-depth, Biblical method for overcoming these complex problems that can be easily applied by pastors and counselors within the church. This book provides just such a method with a new narrative Biblical approach for therapy and in-depth answers for counseling many of these difficult problems. This new method is developed directly from the Bible, relies on the overall direction of the Holy Spirit, and is based on Biblical truth derived from the stories of the lives of well-known Biblical characters. The final conclusion of this book is that God has provided in His word, through the types and shadows interpretation of these stories, all that is required to meet these desperate needs. This book contains many new insights including a comprehensive plan for Christian counseling derived directly from the Bible, in-depth biblical answers for complex psychological problems based on the types and shadows interpretation of biblical stories, models and quick reference guides for counseling 20 of the most difficult problems in the church today including inferiority, abandonment, dysfunctional families, setting boundaries, six types of codependency, abuse, four types of addictions, bitterness, depression, grief, and suicide.
