Distributed Creativity
Par Vlad Petre Glăveanu. 2014
This book challenges the standard view that creativity comes only from within an individual by arguing that creativity also exists…
'outside' of the mind or more precisely, that the human mind extends through the means of action into the world. The notion of 'distributed creativity' is not commonly used within the literature and yet it has the potential to revolutionise the way we think about creativity, from how we define and measure it to what we can practically do to foster and develop creativity. Drawing on cultural psychology, ecological psychology and advances in cognitive science, this book offers a basic framework for the study of distributed creativity that considers three main dimensions of creative work: sociality, materiality and temporality. Starting from the premise that creativity is distributed between people, between people and objects and across time, the book reviews theories and empirical examples that help us unpack each of these dimensions and above all, articulate them into a novel and meaningful conception of creativity as a simultaneously psychological and socio-material process. The volume concludes by examining the practical implications in adopting this perspective on creativity.Boss Bride: The Powerful Woman's Playbook for Love and Success

Par Henry Nicholls. 2018
A narcoleptic's tireless journey through the neuroscience of disordered sleepWhether it's a bout of bad jet lag or a stress-induced…
all-nighter, we've all suffered from nights that left us feeling less than well-rested. But for some people, getting a bad night's sleep isn't just an inconvenience: it's a nightmare. In Sleepyhead, science writer Henry Nicholls uses his own experience with chronic narcolepsy as a gateway to better understanding the cryptic, curious, and relatively uncharted world of sleep disorders. We meet insomniacs who can't get any sleep, narcoleptics who can't control when they sleep, and sleep apnea victims who nearly suffocate in their sleep. We learn the underlying difference between morning larks and night owls; why our sleeping habits shift as we grow older; and the evolutionary significance of REM sleep and dreaming. Charming, eye-opening, and deeply humanizing, Sleepyhead will help us all uncover the secrets of a good night's sleep. If I can t learn the way you teach please teach me the way I can learnIt…

Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics: A 10% Happier How-to Book
Par Carlye Adler, Dan Harris, Jeffrey Warren. 2017
From the author of the #1 New York Times bestselling memoir 10% Happier, this book will get you to meditate.…
Minus the pan flutes. “If you’re like many people, you’re intrigued by the promise of meditation but don’t know how to begin—or you’ve benefited from meditation in the past but need help to get started again. If so, Dan Harris has written the book for you.”—Gretchen Rubin, author of The Four Tendencies and The Happiness Project ABC News anchor Dan Harris used to think that meditation was for people who collect crystals, play Ultimate Frisbee, and use the word “namaste” without irony. After he had a panic attack on live television, he went on a strange and circuitous journey that ultimately led him to become one of meditation’s most vocal public proponents. Here’s what he’s fixated on now: Science suggests that meditation can lower blood pressure, mitigate depression and anxiety, and literally rewire key parts of the brain, among numerous other benefits. And yet there are millions of people who want to meditate but aren’t actually practicing. What’s holding them back? In Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics, Harris and his friend Jeff Warren, a masterful teacher and “Meditation MacGyver,” embark on a cross-country quest to tackle the myths, misconceptions, and self-deceptions that stop people from meditating. They rent a rock-star tour bus (whose previous occupants were Parliament Funkadelic) and travel across eighteen states, talking to scores of would-be meditators—including parents, military cadets, police officers, and even a few celebrities. They create a taxonomy of the most common issues (“I suck at this,” “I don’t have the time,” etc.) and offer up science-based life hacks to help people overcome them. The book is filled with game-changing and deeply practical meditation instructions. You’ll also get access to the 10% Happier app, where you can listen for free to guided audio versions of all the meditations in the book. Amid it all unspools the strange and hilarious story of what happens when a congenitally sarcastic, type-A journalist and a groovy Canadian mystic embark on an epic road trip into America’s neurotic underbelly, as well as their own.9 Days to Feel Fantastic: How To Create Happiness From The Inside Out

Par Jessica Ortner. 2018
From the New York Times best-selling author of The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss and Body Confidence, the latest book…
in the Tapping Solution series uses EFT as a tool for finding the clarity and the ease you need to navigate change. Why do we fear the unknown so intensely that we're willing to shy away from our deepest desires and settle for playing small? Why do we get enthused when we first start something, only to burn out the moment things feel challenging? Why does getting what we want sometimes feel just as scary as not getting what we want? And why, even with new outcomes we desire, do we often struggle to sustain them and instead slip back into old, self-sabotaging patterns?Jessica Ortner asked herself these question--as many of us do--until eventually it became clear that she was really exploring our relationship with the one unavoidable constant in our lives: change. Her new book, the latest in the best-selling Tapping Solution series, shares the lessons she's learned about what it feels like to flow through change and how to create positive, lasting change in ways that feel both authentic and empowering. Ultimately, Jessica tells us, there's profound beauty and joy in change, even when it doesn't feel that way at the start. Readers will learn how to use Tapping (also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT) to navigate the unknown with new energy, hope, and an open heart. Topics include: * Finding our way through fear and uncertainty * Discerning whether our inner critical voice is friend or foe * Learning to release the doubts and fears that cloud our judgment * Getting past procrastination * Letting go of "goals" and finding a new way to focus on what you desire * And much moreLess than Crazy: Living Fully with Bipolar II
