Par Ed Rosenthal. 2011
What's the best bud when you go out to party and want to live it up? Feeling a little down…
and need to let go? Feeling stressed and need to slow down? Need to focus on a complicated task?Even the casual user knows the two types of marijuana, indica and sativa, and within these broad categories are literally thousands of varieties, each with its own effects. Marijuana botanists have crossbred varieties to enhance or diminish characteristics. Happy Buds is all about the effects of these varieties and the choosing which buds to select will open new doors for casual and regular users alike.Thirty million Americans openly admit to using marijuana regularly, the market for Happy Buds is already huge and growing every day. Some use it to help get their day started, some to help them focus deeply on the task at hand and some to just help them chill and end their day with a good night's sleep.Derived from the successful Big Book of Buds series, Happy Buds gives the reader guidance with up to five choices of buds that work best for over 20 occasions. As the number of states (15 as of November 2010) that have legalized medical marijuana and the number of dispensaries grows, finding that perfect bud, seed or plant has become much easier.Ed Rosenthal is the most recognized author of marijuana books with aggregate sales over two million copies, most recently The Big Book of Buds 4 and Marijuana Grower's Handbook.Dealer's Choice

Par Laura Mayer. 2014
Humphry Repton (1752-1818) ambitiously styled himself Capability Brown's successor; the century's next great improver of landed property. He believed that…
the art of laying out grounds could only be achieved by 'the united powers of the landscape painter and the practical gardener', and ingeniously combined his knowledge of farming with a talent for topographical sketching. Over thirty years Repton amassed an incredible four hundred commissions, capitalizing on the whims of the fashion-conscious upper classes left rudderless after Brown's death. Sensitive and snobbish, Repton's ambitions were twofold. He sought to ingratiate himself among the aristocracy, whilst simultaneously raising the status of his adopted profession. Consequently his famous Red Books, illustrated to help clients visualize the potential of their estates, also encouraged an appreciation of landscape aesthetics. This book looks at Repton's theoretic principles and how they underpin his landscape gardening. By detailed site investigations, it traces his approach to landscape design from Picturesque wildernesses like Blaise Castle, Bristol, to the progressive Gardenesque style of Wanstead House in Greater London.150 Best Sustainable House Ideas

Par Stephen, Rebekah Hren. 2008
You've read the stories and watched the documentaries. So you're convinced--burning fossil fuels leads to global climate change; supplies of…
fossil fuels are diminishing in quantity and increasing in price. You've fretted and worried, but still go through your day consuming some quantity of non-renewable fossil fuels to accomplish nearly every task (and you may not even realize it). You want to do something besides worry but you are unsure where to begin. Read this book--then grab your handsaw, tape measure, and drill, and get started! A life powered by the sun is waiting for you. Meant as a guide for renovating existing homes, this book gives you the hands-on knowledge necessary to kick the fossil fuel habit, with projects small and large listed by skill, time, cost, and energy saved. For every aspect of your life currently powered by fossil fuels, we offer alternatives you can accomplish yourself to get started using renewable and sustainable sources of power. Inspired by their own determination to wean themselves completely from fossil fuels, Rebekah and Stephen Hren provide a map for others interested in the path to producing all their own energy and living a fossil fuel-free life. It shows first how to reduce energy consumption as much as possible, then how to retrofit an existing home in order to obtain all heating and cooling, all cooking and refrigeration, and all hot water and electricity from renewable sources. The Hrens also provide advice on renewable methods of transportation and home gardening, as poor choices about food and mobility often negate hard-won gains in the home. Like many today, the Hrens felt they had a moral obligation to mitigate humankind's contribution to the ravages of pollution, including global warming as a result of fossil fuel addiction. In this book, the Hrens offer practical approaches that fit into anyone's budget, and can be done over time as a way to wean oneself from fossil fuel dependency.Parlor Ponds: The Cultural Work of the American Home Aquarium, 1850-1970
Par Judith Hamera. 2012
Parlor Ponds: The Cultural Work of the American Home Aquarium, 1850–1970examines the myriad cultural meanings of the American home aquarium…
during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and argues that the home aquarium provided its enthusiasts with a potent tool for managing the challenges of historical change, from urbanization to globalization. The tank could be a window to an alien world, a theater for domestic melodrama, or a vehicle in a fantastical undersea journey. Its residents were seen as inscrutable and wholly disposable “its,” as deeply loved and charismatic individuals, and as alter egos by aquarists themselves. Parlor Pondsfills a gap in the growing field of animal studies by showing that the tank is an emblematic product of modernity, one using elements of exploration, technology, science, and a commitment to rigorous observation to contain anxieties spawned by industrialization, urbanization, changing gender roles, and imperial entanglements. Judith Hamera engages advertisements, images, memoirs, public aquarium programs, and enthusiast publications to show how the history of the aquarium illuminates complex cultural attitudes toward nature and domestication, science and religion, gender and alterity, and national conquest and environmental stewardship with an emphasis on the ways it illuminates American public discourse on colonial and postcolonial expansion.
