Instead, he claims to be the one who hid the gold and wrote the poem. And he’s hired Cassie to try to find him. Between the two cases, Cassie has her hands full.In Montana, a killer view can mean more than just the scenery, and Cassie knows much darker things hide behind the picturesque landscape of Big Sky Country. Mr. Darcy's Diary
Par Amanda Grange. 2007
Monday 9th September "I left London today and met Bingley at Netherfield Park. I had forgotten what good company he…
is; always ready to be pleased and always cheerful. After my difficult summer, it is good to be with him again. . . . " The only place Darcy could share his innermost feelings was in the private pages of his diary. . . Torn between his sense of duty to his family name and his growing passion for Elizabeth Bennet, all he can do is struggle not to fall in love. Mr. Darcy's Diary presents the story of the unlikely courtship of Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy from Darcy's point of view. This graceful imagining and sequel to Price and Prejudice explains Darcy's moodiness and the difficulties of his reluctant relationship as he struggles to avoid falling in love with Miss Bennet. Though seemingly stiff and stubborn at times, Darcy's words prove him also to be quite devoted and endearing - qualities that eventually win over Miss Bennet's heart. This continuation of a classic romantic novel is charming and elegant, much like Darcy himself. Pride and Prejudice has inspired a large number of modern day sequels, the most successful of which focus on the rich, proud Mr. Darcy. What readers and reviewers are saying about Mr. Darcy's Diary: "A delicious treat for all Austen addicts. " "Amanda Grange knows her subject. . . I ended up reading the entire book in one sitting. " "Amanda Grange has perfectly captured all of Jane Austen's clever wit and social observations to make Mr. Darcy's Diary a must read for any fan. " "Absolutely fascinating. Amanda Grange seems to have really got under Darcy's skin and retells the story, in diary form, with great feeling and sensitivity. The Social Life of Objects in Early Development: New Perspectives on the Pragmatics of the Object (Social Interaction in Learning and Development)
Par Cintia Rodríguez, Pedro Palacios, Iván Moreno-Llanos, Irene Guevara. 2025
This book fills a gap in early developmental psychology by providing a critical reconsideration of the status of artifact objects…
as protagonists of children's actions and communication. The main thesis explored in the book is that objects are part of the material culture; they have public functions and social meanings that are transmitted by the members of the community. Their meanings are not "naturally" given, and children are not born knowing what to do with objects. All chapters analyze and illustrate communication with parents, or with teachers and peers in the early-years school. The book also explores the status of action and uses of materiality in communicative situations with children on the autism spectrum. The book shows objects coming alive in action and in communication, shaping the social foundations and early development of the human psyche. The book is intended for use by scholars and researchers in developmental psychology, teachers in early childhood education (mainly 0-3 years), undergraduate and postgraduate students in the fields of psychology and education, and sociocultural psychologists interested in early development.

Structural Theories for Dynamical Networks in Biology (Theoretical Biology)
Par Atsushi Mochizuki. 2025
This textbook provides an introduction to theoretical biology using specific topics and explains the main mathematical methods. The book also…
introduces the &“structural theories&” developed by the author and his colleagues as new theoretical methods. Structural theories are mathematical theories that determine key aspects of the behavior of dynamical systems from network information alone. The book details the practical applications of these methods across several biological network systems and shows that they are practically useful for analyzing the behaviors of biological systems. The first half of the book focuses on the dynamics that arise from the regulation of biomolecular activity, such as gene expression and protein modification. The second half of the book approaches the understanding of the dynamics of complex systems composed of many biomolecules. Each chapter covers current and important topics in biological research, and its description of how biological phenomena are theoretically elucidated effectively conveys the importance and appeal of mathematical methods. This book is not only a comprehensive textbook on theoretical biology, but also a study guide for learning mathematical methods. It also serves as a specialized reference for systematically learning new mathematical theories. The &“Mathematical Methods&” section at the end of each chapter offers a concise summary and facilitates efficient learning for readers, along with the exercises. Target readers of this book are from upper undergraduate students to senior researchers interested in the dynamics of complex network systems in biology. It appeals to both mathematical and experimental biologists, as well as chemists and physicists.
War and Peace in Ukraine and in Gaza: A Comparative Analysis
Par Robin Luckham. 2025
This book interrogates the wars in Ukraine and in Gaza and asks whether meaningful distinctions can be made between just…
and unjust wars. The author analyses the global roots of both wars, including unresolved clashes of contending imperialisms, rooted in different variants of capitalism. Luckham also examines how the wars have impacted on the global south and how the latter has responded and asks whether active nonalignment could be a way to contain and resolve such conflicts. He also argues that the two wars mark another stage in the evisceration of the post-Cold War peace dividend and its replacement by a warmakers dividend, in which security trumps all else. The author also examines how the burdens of war fall upon those least able to bear them, as well as making the obvious yet neglected point that both conflicts, like all wars, have their beneficiaries. Finally the author considers the contradictory relationships between peace and power: how can nations and peoples trapped in war situations, as in Ukraine and Gaza, navigate towards just and sustainable peace, when the odds are heavily stacked against them?
The Courtneys Of Africa: The Burning Shore, Power of the Sword, Rage
Par Wilbur Smith. 1988
The developing saga of the Courtneys which in the first three novels, When the Lion Feeds, The Sound of Thunder,…
and A Sparrow Falls (published in one volume as The Courtneys in 1987), saw Sean Courtney at the centre of the action, now concentrates on the succeeding generations of the family. This second instalment packs even greater power in three novels of ferocious beauty, thrilling action, and compelling vision. The Burning Shore: spring 1917. In war-ravaged Flanders Michael Courtney, a daring aviator with the Royal Flying Corps, falls in love with young Centaine de Thiry. But their happiness is cut short and their dreams of a life together in the Africa of his birth are changed for her alone into an unforgettable journey of mystery and discovery. Power of the Sword: a novel of lifelong love and hate, of courage and revenge, this is the story of two half-brothers, Centaine’s sons Manfred De La Rey and Shasa Courtney. Blood enemies from their first boyhood encounter, they find themselves on opposing sides in the struggle for mastery in the land. Rage: Manfred and Shasa are now both ministers serving in a government dedicated to the principle of separate development of the races of South Africa. But as the smouldering enmity between the half-brothers erupts into open conflict, the land itself is swept by the fires of racial strife. Together, The Courtneys of Africa illuminates, within the framework of magnificent fiction, the turbulent years in which the modern state of the Republic of South Africa and the crisis of the present day were formed.
Power Purchase Agreements in the Transition to Green Energy and Climate Neutrality (Sustainable Management, Wertschöpfung und Effizienz)
Par Elena Andreea Niculescu. 2025
This book addresses one of the most important legal instruments that can help combat climate change, namely Power Purchase Agreements.…
As decarbonisation is essential for the global transition to electricity, these contracts are a direct legal link that can be formed between the power producer and the power buyer. This type of contract plays an important role in stimulating the creation and development of more renewable energy projects, such as wind, solar or hydro, by providing secure and long-term revenues for producers, while customers benefit from long-term price predictability. The implementation and development of the signing of these contracts are evaluated in this research, with taking into consideration both the economic, legal and social impacts, as well as the effects on the environment. The analysis addresses the risks to which the parties are subject once these contracts are signed, the key factors that influence the development of these contractual relationships, with consideration of concrete cases where PPA market is a developed one, as well as examining these contracts with other legal financial instruments that have the same purpose and aim, namely Contracts for Difference.
