Résumé
Myanmar, 1996. Canadian poet, memoirist, and novelist Connelly describes a country in the throes of a military dictatorship, as she travels to Burma for PEN Canada. Trying to gather information on political prisoners, Connelly gets caught up in violent street… demonstrations and even interviews opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi. Then she meets and falls for Maung, a Burmese revolutionary leader, who shares his not uncommon story of becoming politicized after the unrest of 1988. Explicit descriptions of sex and violence, explicit strong language. Canada Reads 2012. 2009.
