sense of quantitative data. With over 20 years of experience teaching statistics, Soleman H. Abu-Bader provides an accessible, step-by-step description of the process needed to organize data, choose a test or statistical technique, analyze, interpret, and report research findings. The book begins with an overview of research and statistical terms, followed by an explanation of basic descriptive statistics. It then focuses on the purpose, rationale, and assumptions made by each test, such as Pearson's correlation, student's t-tests, analysis of variances, and simple linear regression, among others. The book also provides a wealth of research examples that clearly display the applicability and function of these tests in real-world practice. In a separate appendix, the author provides a step-by-step process for calculating each test for those who still like to understand the mathematical formulas behind these processes.Noche de paz, noche de misterio (Serie Perrock Holmes #Volumen 20)

Canadian case to reflect on the processes and procedures of the parliamentary system, Peter H. Russell explores the tendency for people in parliamentary government to prefer elections which result in one party getting a margin of seats. Russell aims to explain why a minority government is not only a likely outcome of parliamentary elections in Canada but is also, for most, the best possible outcome. He argues that the best result of parliamentary actions is for no party to end up with a majority of seats in the lower house. This makes for government that is more accountable to the people. The new edition reveals how the increasing frequency of parliamentary elections that do not result in majority governments is a positive development for democracy. Ultimately, Two Cheers for Minority Government aims to help both citizens and politicians understand and make the most of the opportunities presented by minority governments.

Items with ordered response categories are common in survey research, such as when respondents are asked how much they agree…
with certain statements. But how large are the differences between categories of response, and how well do they distinguish between respondents? This volume is the first to introduce the evaluation of rating scales to an audience of survey researchers. Evaluating Rating Scale Functioning for Survey Research provides researchers with an overview of rating scale analysis along with practical guidance on how to conduct such analyses with their own survey data. Author Stefanie A. Wind presents three categories of methods: Rasch models; non-Rasch Item Response Theory (IRT) models; and non-parametric models, together with practical examples. Tutorials, datasets, and software code (R and Facets) to accompany the book are available on the book’s website.Teacher be nimble, teacher be quick—the routines in this book make phonics learning stick. Par Elizabeth Baker. 2022
The essence of research design is the ability to articulate your research question. The research question is the precursor to…
the study, and a well-crafted question encapsulates all of the design elements for that study. Based on more than 20 years of conducting research, collaborating with colleagues to formulate research projects, and experience advising doctoral students, author Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) A. Baker forged a research design heuristic which she introduces in this book. She starts by dissecting the anatomy of a qualitative research question, outlines the role of paradigms in research design, describes strategies to use the anatomy as a design heuristic, and provides sample cases that track the decisions two researchers made while formulating a qualitative question. The book concludes with advice on how to move from the research question to the proposal. Throughout, the author provides handy worksheets that readers can complete as they work on crafting their own research question.Crafting Qualitative Research Questions: A Prequel to Design (Qualitative Research Methods)

Par Nima Bassiri. 2024
Uncovers a powerful relationship between pathology and money: beginning in the nineteenth century, the severity of mental illness was measured…
against a patient’s economic productivity. Madness and Enterprise reveals the economic norms embedded within psychiatric thinking about mental illness in the North Atlantic world. Over the course of the nineteenth century, various forms of madness were subjected to a style of psychiatric reasoning that was preoccupied with money. Psychiatrists across Western Europe and the United States attributed financial and even moral value to an array of pathological conditions, such that some mental disorders were seen as financial assets and others as economic liabilities. By turning to economic conduct and asking whether potential patients appeared capable of managing their financial affairs or even generating wealth, psychiatrists could often bypass diagnostic uncertainties about a person’s mental state. Through an exploration of the intertwined histories of psychiatry and economic thought, Nima Bassiri shows how this relationship transformed the very idea of value in the modern North Atlantic, as the most common forms of social valuation—moral value, medical value, and economic value—were rendered equivalent and interchangeable. If what was good and what was healthy were increasingly conflated with what was remunerative (and vice versa), then a conceptual space opened through which madness itself could be converted into an economic form and subsequently redeemed—and even revered.
