Insidious Workplace Behavior (Applied Psychology Series)
Par Jerald Greenberg. 2010
Insidious Workplace Behavior (IWB) refers to low-level, pervasive acts of deviance directed at individual or organizational targets. Because of its…
inherently stealthy nature, scientists have paid little attention to IWB, allowing us to know very little about it. With this book, that now is changing. The present volume - the first to showcase this topic - presents original essays by top organizational scientists who share the most current thinking about IWB. Contributors examine, for example, the many forms that IWB takes, focusing on its antecedents, consequences, and moderators. They also highlight ways that organizational leaders can manage and constrain IWB so as to attenuate its adverse effects. And to promote both theory and practice in IWB, contributors also discuss the special problems associated with researching IWB and strategies for overcoming them. Aimed at students, scholars, and practitioners in the organizational sciences - especially industrial-organizational psychology, organizational behavior, and human resource management - this seminal volume promises to inspire research and practice for years to come. The Artist's Way, A Spiritual Path to Higher Creativity

Par Pamela Blewitt, Patricia Broderick. 2015
The Life Span: Human Development for Helping Professionals, 4th edition, provides an in-depth look at the science of human development,…
highlighting theories and research that have useful applications for individuals working in fields such as education, counseling, and social work. The main purpose of this book is to provide the reader with information that can be translated into professional "best practice" applications. Throughout, the text reflects the contemporary view that life span development is a process deeply embedded within and inseparable from the context of family, social network, and culture. Because the book is designed for graduate students, most topics, especially those that have special relevance to helping professionals, are covered in greater depth than in a typical life span text. The expanded coverage of research in these areas will enhance students'' understanding of the scientific basis for application to practice. The "Good War" in American Memory
Par John Bodnar. 2010
The "Good War" in American Memory dispels the long-held myth that Americans forged an agreement on why they had to…
fight in World War II. Looking back after more than half a century there seems little dispute that World War II was a 'good war', but at the time and for many decades after U.S. society was driven by an intense debate over why it had been necessary to enter such a conflict. This study explores the arguments.Cognitive Behavior Therapy for Adolescents with Eating Disorders
Par Simona Calugi, Riccardo Dalle Grave. 2020
This state-of-the-art guide provides a powerful transdiagnostic approach for treating adolescent eating disorders (anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge-eating disorder, and…
others) in either outpatient or inpatient settings. It describes how enhanced cognitive behavior therapy (CBT-E)--the gold-standard treatment for adult eating disorders--has been systematically adapted and tested with younger patients. With a strong motivational focus, CBT-E gives the adolescent a key role in decision making. The book presents session-by-session guidelines for assessing patients, determining whether CBT-E is appropriate, developing case conceptualizations, conducting individualized interventions, addressing medical issues, and involving parents. User-friendly features include case vignettes and reproducible forms; purchasers get access to a Web page where they can download and print the reproducible materials in a convenient 8 1/2" x 11" size. CBT-E is recognized as a best practice for the treatment of adolescent eating disorders by the U.K. National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).Social Psychology (Ninth Edition)

«young superhero» writer. These feelings are inescapably and forever the reality of those who live on the margins of our larger society. This book covers two distinct yet related topics: the primary care setting and the counselling carried out within it, and…
it can be dipped into or read straight through. Part One, using psychodynamic and systems theory, explores the holding environment of primary care, the interpersonal relationships within the primary care team, and other variables affecting counselling in a medical organisational setting. Part Two takes the counsellor through the 'how' of using psychodynamic and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches within short-term contracts in this setting. Case studies and scenarios are given to illustrate these. The counsellor is guided through assessing the patient's counselling needs either within a psychodynamic or CBT model or to formulate a 'tailor-made' short-term contract, using elements drawn from psychodynamic, CBT, and supportive counselling.Crossing Borders - Integrating Differences: Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy in Transition (The efpp Monograph Ser.)
Par Alf Gerlach, Anne-Marie Schloesser. 2010
This book will stimulate readers to cross borders: between theory and practice, between research and everyday therapy, between out-patient and…
in-patient psychotherapy, between the view of ones own, the known and the culturally foreign. Yet it is only with an awareness of these borders, an acknowledgement and respect of them, that it will be possible to proceed towards integrating differences, where this makes sense and appears necessary. Why Therapists Choose to Become Therapists: A Practice-Based Enquiry (The united Kingdom Council For Psychotherapy Ser.)
Par Sofie Bager-Charleson. 2010
Almost two decades ago, the psychoanalyst Sussman concluded that the therapist's motivation for practicing was a neglected area. Is this…
maybe a question best left alone? This book revisits the question. The authors support Sussman's rationale for raising the issue in the first place and wonder if much has changed since he referred to it as a 'neglected' area twenty years ago? This is an inquiry that moves from personal musing to collaborative and systematic inquiry. At the heart of the book lie six separate accounts as told by counsellors and psychotherapists in a reflective writing- and peer support group. Each therapist represent a different modality and all come with very different backgrounds. These accounts are put into context of ongoing literature and viewed with reference to a survey where 238 other therapists provide their perspective on the question. Like in the case of, for instance, Feltham (1999), Rowan & Jacobs (2003) and Val Wosket (1999) 'the therapist's use of self', is a key theme. This book aims to deconstruct the different theoretical perspectives of psychoanalysis, and reconstruct these concepts in a language that is…
readily understood. Wherever possible this is meant not to do away with terms that are meaningful, but to attempt to clarify terms and concepts. The book comes in three sections. The first examines Freud's different theories and describes how Freud shifted his emphasis over time. The second section covers all the major post-Freudian theorists: Hartmann and Anna Freud (together in one chapter), Melanie Klein, Fairbairn, Winnicott, Sullivan, Mahler, Kohut, Kernberg, and Bion; and a chapter on the movement from classical theory to contemporary conflict theory. The last section deals with issues raised in contemporary psychoanalysis - issues as they pertain to the clinical situation, and the rationale for a theory of endogenous stimulation.Psychosomatics Today: A Psychoanalytic Perspective (The International Psychoanalytical Association Psychoanalytic Ideas and Applications Series)
Par Marilia Aisenstein, Elsa Rappoport de Aisemberg. 2010
Psychosomatics have classically been of peripheral importance within our wellknown theoretical models, despite the fact that they do have a…
history in the field of psychoanalysis. This might be owing to the fact that Freud did not explicitly approach psychosomatics and, in consequence, did not put forward any hypotheses within his theoretical body. However, the Freudian concepts of actual neuroses and mixed neuroses are a basis in order to understand psychosomatic phenomena. The same could be said about the connections established with subsequent Freudian theoretical models, such as: the introduction of narcissism, unresolved mourning processes, early trauma and the action of Thanatos. On Latency: Individual Development, Narcissistic Impulse Reminiscence and Cultural Ideal
Par M. Leticia Franieck. 2010
Latency is a developmental period that plays a transitional role, like "a bridge", between early childhood and adolescence (the beginning…
of early adulthood). However, the latency period is a subject that has not been studied enough in psychoanalysis in recent years. Most of the psychoanalytic frameworks that have built on and extended Freud's work have focussed their attention either on the understanding of the child's early development (the early dyadic and triadic relationship of the infant and the early organization of the mind), or on the understanding of adolescent development, when sexuality explodes - accompanied by all unconscious libidinal elements from the early organization which were repressed in latency. As a result, interest in the latency period has been put in the shade: left dormant as its definition would imply. The aim of this book is to raise a number of relevant questions, which have not received much attention in psychoanalysis up to now. To this end empirical findings are related to conceptual elaboration in order to advance knowledge.Bearing Witness: Psychoanalytic Work with People Traumatised by Torture and State Violence (The efpp Monograph Ser.)

Par Kevin Prufer. 2014
Churches explores the way our experience of the world is shaped through the stories we tell about ourselves. These poems…
braid multiple narratives that often take place in different times, or are seen through the eyes of various speakers. Here Prufer explores the interior and subjective nature of time as he engages with mortality, both as a cultural construct and a deeply personal, unarticulatable anxiety: "In this filtered light, / my brain is a nimbler thing, and strange. It loves / the slow derangements distance brings."Telling Stories?: Attachment-Based Approaches to the Treatment of Psychosis
Par Sarah Benamer. 2010
Telling Stories? explores the contemporary state of affairs in the understanding and treatment of psychosis. An inclusive approach to mental…
distress requires that in order to truly understand psychosis we must begin by listening to those who know this from the inside out; the voices and narrative of those who have been condemned as "unanalysable" and mad. Far from being fantastical, the complex stories that are being articulated communicate painful truths and the myriad ways in which the human psyche survives overwhelming trauma. This book is the culmination of an integrated and creative alliance between those on the cutting edge, experientially, in research, diagnosis, and treatment; this multidisciplinary dialogue proposes a new relational and attachment orientated paradigm for the 21st century. In contrast to the containment model that is currently favoured, this advocates listening and talking therapies, and the healing power of a loving relationship, offering those with psychosis the possibility of more nourishing engagement with the world. This collection of written pieces plots the work of an NHS psychotherapist, Jonathan Pedder, turning the science of psychiatry into…
human encounters. He had a career teaching and inspiring colleagues and students with psychoanalytic ways of thinking, encouraging and supporting them in the challenges of contemporary psychiatry. In his work he made the world of psychoanalysis accessible to non-analysts, and this book augments the textbook on psychotherapy which Pedder wrote with Dennis Brown. Pedder was a quiet visionary influential in offering a pathway for mental health workers from many disciplines to find their way to the psychoanalytic ideas that illuminate their patients/clients.'- Professor R. D. Hinshelwood, Author of Clinical Klein and Dictionary of Kleinian Thought. This book contains eleven selected papers on difficult topics group therapists encounter in their work. Based on the author's forty…
years in the field, these papers include the topics of shame, courage, hostility, combined individual and group therapy, money, indirect communication, difficult patients, silence, and the missed session. Written from a psychodynamic orientation with a relational emphasis, they pay special attention to countertransference. An autobiographical introduction to each paper discusses what experiences have led the author to write on each topic. These introductions honor the role that personal experience has played in the evolution of Dr Gan's therapeutic presence. The Creativity of Social Dreaming
