Red River: Blazing Guns On The Chisholm Trail
Par Borden Chase. 2020
The book that launched the classic Howard Hawks western starring John Wayne and Montgomery Clift.—HALF A CATTLE EMPIRE—for a son...Now…
Dunson turned that blunt gaze on Tess. He let the gray eyes run slowly over her shoulders and breasts and hips...“What would you say, Tess Millay, if I offered you half of an empire in exchange for a son?”“...Your son?”“Yes.”The great State of Texas is dying...herds of cattle run wild...an uncharted trail leads to nowhere—but Colonel Dunson would fight on to save his empire, just so long as he had this woman by his side. Here is a Western that has been cut out of the lonely stretches of Texas, patterned from the lives of great giants of the land. A smashing story that pounds like the drumming hoofs of 10,000 cattle—a yarn that will hold you through the 100-day drive along the historic Chisholm Trail.Stories and Legends of the Palm Springs Indians

West. Even the expansive sub-title shows that there is no limit to the talents of Doc Carver—“Plainsman, Trapper, Buffalo Hunter, Medicine Chief Of The Santee Sioux, World's Champion Marksman, And Originator Of The American Wild West Show.”Doc’s life began in the era of American pioneering to the West. As a youth he lived with the Santee Sioux, from the plains of Illinois and the forests of Minnesota he graduated to the beautiful prairies of Nebraska where he became supreme as a horseback-riding buffalo hunter, and came to count among his close friends the mountain men and plainsmen of whom James B. Hickok, John Y. Nelson, Texas Jack, and the boastful “Buffalo Bill,” were but a few.To California, at thirty-five years of age, was Carver’s next move. Here he discovered in his reading of sporting magazines that men were making fortunes by shooting—men who were not good shots! His innate confidence assured him that he was the best shot in the world, and he began the work of proving to the world that he was not only the best marksman, but that he was to become one of the world’s outstanding showmen.Positive Psychological Approaches to Disaster: Meaning, Resilience, and Posttraumatic Growth

Par Cezar Giosan. 2020
Evolutionary psychology has recently made inroads in clinical psychology, bringing the understanding that, in some cases, mental symptoms are not…
manifestations of brain disorders, but rather evolved mechanisms that might function in overdrive or signal fitness problems. Thus, improvements in fitness may lead to improvements in those symptoms. Armed with such insights, this brief describes a comprehensive therapy protocol for depression – Cognitive Evolutionary Therapy (CET) –, which incorporates evolutionary understandings of this condition into well-validated cognitive techniques. CET starts with an evaluation of the evolutionary fitness of an individual, which represents the springboard for specific, evolutionary-driven behavioral and cognitive interventions. Based on the fitness evaluation, which takes place at intake, the CET therapist comes pre-equipped with a list of the patient’s fitness problems and can start working on them very early on in therapy, potentially leading to shorter interventions and cost savings. This brief will appeal to clinical psychologists and therapists who frequently employ CBT principles in therapy, as well as to clinicians who want to incorporate insights from evolutionary disciplines into their approaches.HR True Story: Die heimlichen Herausforderungen und Katastrophen der Personalarbeit und wie man sie meistert

Par Ian Brown. 2020
This wide-ranging and ground-breaking book, especially relevant given Brexit and renewed Scottish independence campaigning, provides in-depth analysis of ways Scottishness…
has been performed and modified over the centuries. Alongside theatre, television, comedy, and film, it explores performativity in public events, Anglo-Scottish relations, language and literary practice, the Scottish diaspora and concepts of nation, borders and hybridity. Following discussion of the 1320 Declaration of Arbroath and the real meanings of the 1706/7 Treaty of Union, it examines the differing perceptions of what the ‘United Kingdom’ means to Scots and English. It contrasts the treatment of Shakespeare and Burns as ‘national bards’ and considers the implications of Scottish scholars’ invention of ‘English Literature’. It engages with Scotland’s language politics –rebutting claims of a ‘Gaelic Gestapo’ – and how borders within Scotland interact. It replaces myths about ‘tartan monsters’ with level-headed evidence before discussing in detail representations of Scottishness in domestic and international media.Prüfungstrainer zur Entwicklungspsychologie im Kindes- und Jugendalter: Lernhilfe-Begleitbuch zum Lehrbuch

they take is rapidly increasing with the progress of IoT and the Connected Society. It explores how emotion-related processes are increasing in importance rapidly. The contributors move through a variety of related topics, all aimed at revealing how humans and things must increasingly interact. It indicates how strategy becomes increasingly important, particularly creating the best adaptable strategy to respond to the quickly and extensively changing situations. With engineering quickly moving from product development to experience development, and the role of emotion in engineering becoming increasingly apparent, this book offers a timely and valuable resource for engineers and researchers alike.Imagination + Technology (Human–Computer Interaction Series)
Par Phil Turner. 2020
Imagination is highly valued and sought-after, yet elusive and ill-defined. Definitions range from narrowly cognitive accounts to those which endow…
imagination with world-making powers. Imagination underpins our ability to speculate about the future and to re-experience the past. The everyday functioning of society relies on being able to imagine the perspectives of others; and our sense of who we are depends on the stories our imaginations create. Our soaring imaginations have taken us to the moon and allowed Einstein to race a light beam. Unsurprisingly, imagination underlies every aspect of human-computer interaction, from the earliest conceptual sketches, through the realistic possibilities portrayed variously in well-known tools as scenarios and storyboards, through to the wilder shores of design fictions. Yet, curiously, imagination is very rarely addressed directly in the design and HCI literature (and is wholly missing from virtual reality). This book addresses this gap in our accounts of how we imagine, conceptualise, design and use digital technologies. Drawing on many years of practical and academic experience in human computer-interaction, together with a wide range of material from psychology, design, cognitive science and HCI, seasoned with a little philosophy and anthropology, Imagination + Technology first considers imagination itself and the principal farthings of a new account. Later chapters discuss the role of imagination in the design, aesthetics, use and experience of digital technologies before the concluding chapter focusses on the provocative nature of imagination. The book will be stimulating reading for anyone working in the field of interactive technology and related areas, whether academics, students or practitioners. This volume presents a re-envisioning of the field of theoretical psychology and offers unique visions for its present and future…
from leaders of North American philosophical psychology. It contends that theoretical psychology has reached ‘middle-age’ and must consider new directions to renew its growth. Rooted in a range of research traditions and the intellectual biographies of its authors, it paves the way toward this necessary revitalization of the content, activities, responsibilities, and hopes of theoretical psychology. The authors situate their analyses in the context of the increasing gap between alternative and mainstream and between the discipline and the profession of psychology. They demonstrate that changes in society, culture and technology, the internationalization of the psychological humanities, and the cross-fertilization of intellectual innovations from other disciplines now afford possibilities for new orientations in theoretical psychology. The volume aims to do justice to psychological topics, human beings, and the intellectual problems that psychologists encounter, while also providing space for (meta)theoretical engagement, often neglected in the discipline. Together, the chapters in this collection make the case that a renewal of the discipline and practice of psychology is a task that is best accomplished collectively, and, despite significant disagreements, in solidarity.Abjection and Abandonment: Melancholy in Philosophy and Art

of the market has led to the growing significance of prestige in employment as an efficient yardstick of performance. At the same time, mounting student loans make the need for a prestigious education palpable. While prestige has always been important in the job market, continuously increasing competitive pressure is driving the role of prestige to new heights. This book shows how insights from consumer research on prestige-driven behavior can be helpful in gaining a better understanding of applicants' motives. Furthermore, it investigates the effect of prestige preference versus value-based, person-organization fit. Lastly, the book reports on experimental evidence that prestigious employer preference can provide a basis for risky decision-making behavior. Prestige is an increasingly powerful motivator in today’s job market – one that requires a closer look.Consciencia
