The extraordinary life of Lewis & Clark’s right-hand man In 1804, John Colter set out with Meriwether Lewis and William…
Clark on the first U.S. expedition to traverse the North American continent. During the twenty-eight month ordeal, Colter served as a hunter and scout, and honed his survival skills on the western frontier. But when the journey was over, Colter stayed behind, spending two more years trekking alone through dangerous and unfamiliar territory. Along the way, he charted some of the West’s most treasured landmarks. Historian David W. Marshall crafts this captivating history from Colter’s primary sources, and has retraced Colter’s steps—seeing what he saw, hearing what he heard, and experiencing firsthand how he and his contemporaries survived in the wilderness (how they pitched a shelter, built a fire, followed a trail, and forded a stream)—adding a powerful layer of authority and detail. The American Grit series brings you true tales of endurance, survival, and ingenuity from the annals of American history. These books focus on the trials of remarkable individuals with an emphasis on rich primary source material and artwork. The Everything Small-Space Gardening Book

Par Adriana Craciun. 2016
How did the Victorian fixation on the disastrous John Franklin expedition transform our understanding of the Northwest Passage and the…
Arctic? Today we still tend to see the Arctic and the Northwest Passage through nineteenth-century perspectives, which focused on the discoveries of individual explorers, their illustrated books, visual culture, imperial ambitions, and high-profile disasters. However, the farther back one looks, the more striking the differences appear in how Arctic exploration was envisioned. Writing Arctic Disaster uncovers a wide range of exploration cultures: from the manuscripts of secretive corporations like the Hudson's Bay Company, to the nationalist Admiralty and its innovative illustrated books, to the searches for and exhibits of disaster relics in the Victorian era. This innovative study reveals the dangerous afterlife of this Victorian conflation of exploration and disaster, in the geopolitical significance accruing around the 2014 discovery of Franklin's ship Erebus in the Northwest Passage. The Edible Pepper Garden

Combinations of chucks for compound eccentric turning, spiral turning, and reciprocated work are also described in detail. The approach throughout is thoroughly practical and nothing is omitted that may be of use to the beginner or advanced ornamental turner.Automation: The Future Of Weed Control In Cropping Systems

Par Twigs Way. 2013
Contrived, colourful, and cultured, the garden of the Tudor period was a paradise on earth, given over to pleasurable pastimes.…
Artificiality was the fashion of the age, with clipped and twined plants vying for space between brightly painted woodwork, and patterned beds of coloured soils. Renaissance discoveries reared their head in royal gardens, as traditional gold and green heraldic figures mingled with fantastical sundials and glittering fountains. Walls kept out the wild world beyond, whilst mounts permitted glimpses to new parklands, and provided raised platforms for the banqueting houses of the wealthy. Ever-changing with newly introduced exotic plants and yet never changing with year round knot gardens, the Tudor garden was an exciting pageant which this book seeks to explore.TOC: Introduction / Planting Paradise / Knots, Allees and Arbours / Moats, Ponds and Water Gardens / Mounts, Terraces, Pavillions and Banqueting Houses / Royalty and Pageant / Courting the Garden Queen / Gardens to Visit / IndexSeeds of Hope
